Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women worldwide. It occurs when abnormal cells in the breast grow uncontrollably, forming a tumor. While it can also affect men, it is significantly more common in women. Early detection and timely treatment are crucial for better outcomes.

Signs And Symptoms

  1. A lump or thickening in the breast or underarm.
  2. Change in the size, shape, or appearance of the breast
  3. Nipple discharge (other than breast milk), especially if bloody
  4. Redness or flaky skin on the breast or nipple
    Inverted nipple or pain in the nipple area

  • Treatment Options

    1. Breast Conservation Surgery (Lumpectomy)
    Removal of the tumor while preserving the natural shape of the breast.

    2. Mastectomy (Total/Modified Radical)
    Surgical removal of one or both breasts in more extensive cancer cases.

    3. Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy & Axillary Clearance
    To check and treat cancer spread to the lymph nodes.

    4. Oncoplastic & Reconstructive Surgery
    Combining cancer surgery with plastic surgery for better cosmetic outcomes.

    5. Chemotherapy
    Systemic treatment to kill cancer cells, often used before or after surgery.

    6. Hormonal Therapy
    Used in hormone receptor-positive cancers to block cancer cell growth.

    7. Targeted Therapy (e.g., Trastuzumab/Herceptin)
    Specifically attacks HER2-positive cancer cells.

    8. Immunotherapy
    Particularly useful in triple-negative breast cancer in selected cases.

    9. Radiation Therapy
    Used after surgery to destroy any remaining cancer cells in the breast or lymph nodes.

    10. Genetic Counseling & BRCA Testing
    Offered for patients with family history or suspected hereditary breast cancer.
